The effects of drugs on your body may vary since there are many kinds of drugs and not only one. These kinds include barbiturates, stimulants, depressants, etc. The effect may also vary depending on the does that a person has taken. Some may cause overdose shortly after consumption while some may have no effects until after a few days. Listed below are the possible effects of drugs in short term and long term

Short term effects

  1. Wakefulness - If a person has consumed a stimulant, then most likely a person will not fall asleep. This is because stimulants increase the brains activity and shuts off the production of melatonin, a sleeping hormone.
  2. Sleepiness - This is the opposite of wakefulness. It is commonly observed after a person has taken a depressant or sleeping medicines.

Long term effects

  1. Addiction - The person may want to increase the drug dosage more than what was indicated by the label.
  2. Withdrawal symptoms - This is observed when a person stops using a drug. The symptoms may include aggression, wakefulness, and depression state. This is dangerous as this impedes the daily activities of a person
